Canadian Dental Care Plan

Discover how the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) can help make dental care more affordable for eligible patients. At The Dental Group in North York, we’re here to help you get the care you deserve—every step of the way.

What is Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP)?

The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is a federal government program designed to help make dental care more accessible for Canadians. It provides coverage for individuals and families who do not have private dental insurance and have a household income of less than $90,000 per year.

It aims to reduce financial barriers by covering a wide range of dental services for eligible individuals and families.

Who is eligible for the CDCP?

To qualify for the CDCP, you must meet all four (4) of these requirements:

  • You do not have access to dental insurance
  • Your adjusted family net income is less than $90,000
  • You and your spouse/common-law-partner (if applicable) must have filed your tax returns in Canada so that your family income can be assessed for the previous year
  • You’re a Canadian resident for tax purposes

How to apply?

Eligible Canadians of all ages can now apply for the CDCP. You must meet all four (4) eligibility requirements before applying.

You’ll need to provide the following information for each applicant, and your spouse or common-law partner (if you have one):

  • Social Insurance Number (SIN) (if available for children)
  • date of birth
  • full name
  • home and mailing address
  • list of dental coverage through government social programs (if applicable)
  • you and your spouse or common-law partner (if applicable) must have filed your tax return in Canada for the previous year and have received your notice of assessment

Eligible Canadians can apply online at Canada.ca/dental, by calling 1-833-537-4342, or by visiting a Service Canada Centre.

Once you’ve applied and your eligibility for the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) has been confirmed, you will receive a letter from the Government of Canada with your CDCP member ID, coverage start date and co-payment level. To ensure your services are covered under the CDCP, please book your dental appointments on or after your coverage start date.

For more details on the CDCP and eligibility criteria, visit Canada.ca/dental.

Renewing your coverage

Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) members must renew their applications to the CDCP every year to avoid a gap in coverage.

If you missed the renewal deadline and your coverage ended on June 30, 2025, you can still submit a renewal application. There will be a gap in your coverage until it is reinstated. Oral health care services received during this gap will not be covered nor reimbursed.

Once your renewal application is completed, you will receive a determination letter confirming whether you remain eligible under the plan. This letter will outline your new coverage start date and your co-payment level.
